December Challenge – Week 1

I’ll document here my progress so far through Week 1 of December:

Targets:

  • Read each morning (I have a list of books to finished as previously mentioned)
  • Jog (or walk) an average of 2.3 miles each day to total 72 miles in December (far more than I’ve done in a single month before), and 300 miles by the end of the year (to match last year’s total).
  • Cycle an average of 20+ miles each day to total 660 miles in December (I’ve done more of this before so I’m confident about this one), and 6,000 miles by the end of the year (again to match last year’s total).
  • Do yoga each day, ideally 30 minutes, to help with the running and cycling…

Day 1

  • Read a section of Arthur Mee’s Children’s Encyclopedia – today’s topic was Scandinavia – a side-challenge is to complete 7 by the end of the year; well on target.
  • Jogged 5 miles today to get ahead since I’m unlikely to have time for a run tomorrow due to work.
  • Cycled 15/20+ miles but plenty to do tomorrow.
  • Short bit of yoga.

Day 2

  • Read a small section of the book on Ikigai as part of my routine and then throughout the day I listened to parts of the audio book of a Book of a Thousand Nights and a Night, and read some of Robinson Crusoe.
  • Jogged 0 miles today; no time for that as expected, still up on my target though.
  • Cycled 60 miles, so up on my target.
  • Short bit of yoga.

Day 3

  • Read some of Arthur Mee’s Children’s Encyclopedia.
  • Jogged 2 miles today; on target.
  • Cycled; total up to 90 miles.
  • Short bit of yoga (need to do more!)

Day 4

  • Finished reading a book on Ikigai; returned it to the library and borrowed another book… oh dear!
  • Jogged 2 miles today; on target.
  • Cycled; total up to 105 miles and on target.
  • Short bit of yoga (still need to do more!)

Day 5

  • Read some of Organized Mind by Daniel Levitin; I’m really going to need to focus on this one!
  • Jogged 2 miles today; on target.
  • Cycled in 45+mph winds today, always fun; total up to 120 miles and on target.

Day 6

  • Read some of Organized Mind by Daniel Levitin.
  • Jogged: missed today’s chance for a run, will make up the difference tomorrow.
  • Cycled; on target.

Day 7

  • Read a chapter of Organized Mind.
  • Jogged 5 miles today; back on target.
